About Us

The Rehema Project, based in Musoma, Tanzania, is an Anglican Church of Tanzania, Diocese of Mara project and is run by Heather Johnstone a Mission Partner from CMS, UK.

The project has the tagline of ‘the voice of the voiceless’ and provides a voice for local women through employment, training, and empowerment.

The project has two income generating enterprises – Rehema Café and Rehema Crafts and is (mostly) self-sustaining.

The project employs local women, who prepare excellent food in the café and produce beautiful local craft products for sale locally and internationally.

Any profit generated from the café and shop goes to Rehema Assistance which benefits women and children in crisis.

By buying Rehema crafts you will be contributing directly to the dignity and freedom from poverty for vulnerable women and children in the Mara region of NW Tanzania.

*Rehema is the Kiswahili word for ‘mercy’

What our customers say

Rehema is an amazing place. It has great food and lovely products in the workshop, but one of its best features is the people who work there. They are so welcoming and fun to be around. One of my favorite places in Tanzania – I would recommend it to everyone.

Please visit here! The best coffee, food and brownies in Mara. The philosophy behind the cafe is brilliant. The crafts there are the best to buy anywhere. There is no caveat here – just go.

Rehema is a wonderful place for good food and excellent shopping. There are a range of African made items made by local artisans. It has wonderful outside dining and very friendly staff. You must stop by when in Musoma.
